TL;DR
Open a document → Version history (clock/history icon) → browse versions → Preview to view or Restore to revert. Restoring creates a new version first so you can undo.
What is version history
Version history records changes to documents over time. Versions are created as you edit; you can preview any version and restore it if needed.
View version history
- Open a document.
- Click Version history (clock or history icon in the toolbar).
- See a list of versions with:
- Version number
- Who made the change
- When it was saved
- Optional description
Preview a version
- In version history, click a version.
- Use Preview to view that snapshot.
- Compare it with the current version if the UI supports it.
Restore a version
- In version history, select the version you want.
- Click Restore.
- A version is saved before restoring (so you can undo).
- The document content reverts to that version.
Tip: After restoring, you can use version history again to go back to the newer version if you change your mind.
Compare two versions
If available:
- Open version history.
- Select two versions to compare.
- View the diff to see what changed.
Common issues
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| No version history | Versions are created as you edit. New or rarely edited docs may have few entries. |
| Version not found | The version may have been removed or the doc ID changed. Refresh and try again. |
| Restore didn't work | Check your connection. Ensure you have edit permission. |
