TL;DR
From a doc: use Link or the linked resources section → add a task. From a task: add a link in the description or use the doc picker. Documents and tasks must be in the same project.
Why link docs to tasks
Linking keeps specs, requirements, meeting notes, and designs attached to tasks. Team members see related docs without hunting.
Link from a document
- Open the document.
- Find Linked resources or the link/embed option.
- Click Add → Task.
- Search by task title or ID and select the task.
Link from a task
- Open the task.
- In the description, add a doc link using
@or the doc picker (format:[Doc Name](doc:docId)). - Or use Related documents in the task panel to attach a doc.
Rules
- Documents and tasks must be in the same project.
- You need permission to access both the doc and the task.
Unlinking
Remove a link from either the document’s linked resources section or the task’s related documents. The link is removed from both sides.
Common issues
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| "Doc and task must be in same project" | Create or move the doc into the task’s project. |
| "Doc already linked" | The link exists. Check the task’s related docs or the doc’s linked resources. |
| Can't find the task | Make sure you have access to the project and board. |
