TL;DR
After signing up, you'll see onboarding. Enter a workspace name, optionally describe what you do (5+ chars), and click Get started. AI creates custom boards and sample content. If you joined via invite, the system adds you to that workspace automatically.
What happens during onboarding
Onboarding helps you get from sign-up to a productive workspace in one flow. You can create a new workspace with AI, use a simple setup, or accept an invitation to join an existing team.
Prerequisites: A Milestone account (via sign-up or OAuth).
Create a workspace with AI (recommended)
- Workspace name — Enter at least 2 characters (e.g., "Acme Inc").
- Describe what you do (optional) — Add a short description (5+ characters) of your work. Examples:
- "Software team building a mobile app"
- "Marketing agency running campaigns"
- Click Get started.
- AI analyzes your input and creates:
- Project structure
- Workflow boards and columns
- Sample tasks
- You're taken to your new workspace when setup finishes.
Tip: More detail gives better structure. "E-commerce team: design, dev, QA" tends to work better than "we build websites."
Create a workspace without AI
Leave the description empty or use fewer than 5 characters. Milestone creates a workspace with a default project and basic board. You can customize it afterward.
Joining via invitation
If you were invited to a workspace:
- Click the invitation link from your email.
- Sign in (or create an account) if needed.
- The system adds you to the workspace automatically.
- You're redirected to the workspace home.
Note: Invitations usually expire after 7 days. If the link fails, ask the sender for a new invite.
Common issues
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| AI setup is slow or fails | Refresh and try again. Shorten your description if it's very long. |
| Workspace name too short | Use at least 2 characters. |
| Invitation link invalid | It may have expired. Ask for a new invitation. |
| Already have a workspace | If you see the app instead of onboarding, you’re already set up. Use Settings to create another workspace if needed. |
